ABOUT KENNETH
Kenneth Byrd is nationally recognized for more than 15 years
of creating beautiful interiors and furnishings. With offices in
Central Virginia and South Florida, he brings his creativity to
residential and commercial projects throughout the US, with
a particular concentration along the Eastern Seaboard.
Known for his modern interpretation of classical design,
Kenneth’s work has been featured in more than 60 print and
digital publications, including two dozen magazine covers. His
accolades include Home & Design's “5 Hot Talent,”
Style’s “40 Under 40,” Classic Home's "Designer Spotlight,"
and numerous “Best Of” honors from regional publications.
ABOUT THE FIRM
We were founded in 2010—the same year as two of our daily design companions, Instagram and Pinterest. It began with a small design project in a boutique condominium building. That seemingly insignificant project went on to yield additional opportunities, and before we knew it, we were off to the races. Having seen firsthand how much can come from a small beginning, we’ll always believe there are no projects too small to take on, only small ideas.
The firm is a multi-category, multi-year NAA Excellence Award winner and HRACRE Excellence in Development Design Award winner. There are a number of scout badges we've collected along the way, but our reputation for delivering consistent, outstanding results is our greatest recognition.

WORKING WITH US
We take the work seriously. We just don’t take ourselves too seriously while doing it. After all, it’s your home—shouldn’t we have a little fun while creating something spectacular together?
We're a shield of sorts. Renovation and change can be stressful. Our job is to absorb as much of that stress as possible so you can enjoy the exciting part: watching your space transform. With a good team working for you, change can be exciting— and, dare we say, enjoyable. Before you know it, you’ll be leaping out of your comfort zone and embracing change in the best possible way.
We spend your money like it’s our own. The bottom line matters. It’s one of those things you can’t really appreciate until you see it in practice, but it’s a big reason we receive so many referrals—and haven’t spent a dime on marketing. We have a team of trusted contractors and vendors, but that doesn’t stop us from vetting them against other prospects each and every time to make sure we’re getting the best value. Beautiful is important. Smart is, too.
We’re efficient. We’ve been there and done that more than a few times. Years of experience have taught us how to work efficiently, using every little trick of the trade, relationship, favor, and hard-earned lesson we’ve picked up along the way. We’re so good at trimming the fat that we could be butchers. Gone are the days of waiting half a year—or more—for a room to come together. Custom or not, who has the patience for that?
We respect your privacy. We won’t flood social media with intrusive photos every time we’re in your home. It's a pet peeve, by the way. We leave it entirely up to you whether we feature your home in a publication or include it in our portfolio. Your home is a sacred place, and your privacy and comfort are incredibly important to us.
Clients become dear friends for a reason. Heck, half the guests at Kenneth’s own wedding were clients.
A PERSONAL MESSAGE
I’ve had a passion for interior design long before I knew what interior design was. Or even what passion was, for that matter.
I was lucky enough to grow up with an exceptionally creative mother whose superpower was making something beautiful out of very little. Creativity, resourcefulness, and a healthy disregard for the ordinary rubbed off on me.
As a kid, I spent an inordinate amount of time rearranging the furniture in our house, swapping out and making accessories, or painting my latest “masterpieces” for the walls. I discovered early how changing a room could impact how you felt in it, too. So naturally, I experimented at my family's expense. Looking back, that was either early career development or evidence that I was just a difficult child to live with.
Many years later and several feet taller, that childhood obsession turned into an actual career. I’ve been fortunate enough to design everything from high-end homes and hospitality interiors to large-scale multifamily developments. Through it all, my goal has remained the same: create beautiful spaces that feel custom and high-end without the eye-watering price tag.
Somehow, 15 years of Kenneth Byrd Design have flown by. Fifteen years of hard work have brought award-winning projects, magazine covers, professional recognition, and more importantly, incredible relationships, creative collaborations and lots of amazing stories.
A few years ago, I lost my mother—my biggest supporter and most enthusiastic fan. Losing her took a lot out of me. Her love of design, but even more so, her love of her family, continue to inspire me every day. Putting my all into creating beautiful spaces feels like one of the best ways I can honor her, so that's what I do.
I’m incredibly grateful that I get to be creative for a living. I try to remind myself of that when the going gets tough. It's a privilege creating spaces where real people get to live in, gather and make memories. If I can make those spaces a little more beautiful and bring a little more joy to the people who experience them, then I think I’m doing something right.
